Lifetime's upcoming Aaliyah biopic will touch on the singer's questionable relationship with R. Kelly.
While Kelly served as her professional mentor, the two were also reportedly married when Aaliyah was only 15-years-old. Executive producer Debra Martin Chase tells the New York Post's "Page Six" that "Aaliyah's personal and professional relationship" with Kelly will be "explored with care" in Aaliyah: Princess of R&B. She also says filmmakers plan to depict Aaliyah's life with "the utmost respect."
Disney Channel star and "Dancing With The Stars" alum Zendaya Coleman will play the singer, who passed away in 2001 at the age of 22.
Aaliyah's family is not pleased with Lifetime's decision to put the singer's life on screen without their input. They are planning to try to block the film's release. Despite their disapproval, the family asks that Aaliyah's fans be "respectful" to Zendaya.
